Well Integrity Management System Implementation

Well Integrity Management, Well Engineering, Conventional Oil and Gas

Project Overview

Following changes to state-based regulatory requirements, an Australian onshore operator required the development and implementation of a formal Well Integrity Management System (WIMS) to ensure compliance with statutory obligations and improve oversight of well integrity across its asset base. JJM personnel were engaged to design, implement and operationalise the WIMS and undertake a comprehensive integrity review of the operator’s well stock.

Project Details

Scope of Work

  • Development of a Well Integrity Management System aligned with statutory requirements and industry standards

  • Implementation of the WIMS as an approved operational framework for the operator

  • Review and analysis of the operator’s full well stock using a proprietary well integrity database system

  • Engineering assessment of each well’s integrity status based on well type, corrosion risk and barrier test results

  • Evaluation of well-specific Maximum Allowable Annulus Surface Pressures (MAASP) and Maximum Operating Pressures (MOP)

  • Development and implementation of a scheduled well integrity testing program

  • Preparation of well-specific remediation plans and fitness-for-service assessments

  • Development of individual Well Integrity Management Plans and escalation workflows in accordance with WIMS requirements

Key Challenges

  • Integrating well integrity processes with existing operational and data management systems

  • Assessing integrity status across a diverse well stock with varying ages, well designs and operational histories

  • Interpreting historical integrity data, barrier tests and corrosion risk indicators to determine current well condition

  • Implementing consistent integrity monitoring and escalation processes across the operator’s well portfolio

Outcomes

The project successfully delivered a compliant Well Integrity Management System and established a structured integrity management framework for the operator’s well stock. The program provided a clear and auditable view of well integrity status across the asset base, supported by scheduled integrity testing, defined remediation pathways and well-specific Integrity Management Plans. As a result, the operator achieved compliance with statutory obligations and gained improved visibility and control of integrity risks across its wells.
