Underground Gas Storage Field Integrity Assessment
Project Overview
Following completion of the final planned injection and withdrawal cycle of a single-cycle underground gas storage facility, the operator sought to determine whether the operating life of the facility could be extended. JJM personnel performed a comprehensive fitness-for-service assessment of all injection, withdrawal and monitoring wells associated with the storage facility to evaluate the remaining structural integrity of the well stock.
Project Details
Location: Queensland, Australia
Industry: Underground Gas Storage
Scope: Well Engineering, Well Integrity Management, Project Management
Scope of Work
Development of integrity assessment programs
Procurement, tender and contractor management
Site supervision of wireline logging operations
Development of fitness for service assessments and technical reporting
Key Challenges
Verifying corrosion and metal loss across multiple casing and completion strings using proprietary logging technology
Interpreting corrosion logging data and engineering analysis of remaining tubular capacity and fitness for continued service
Determining whether the storage wells could safely support an extension to storage and withdrawal cycles
Outcome
The well integrity assessment campaign and follow on fitness for service assessments supported the operator’s decision making to extend injection and withdrawal cycles of the underground storage facility whilst maintain well integrity and regulatory compliance.
