144 Well Decommissioning Campaign
Project Overview
JJM personnel delivered a large-scale well decommissioning campaign for an Australian onshore operator exiting upstream operations. The program involved the plug and abandonment of 144 wells comprising both vertical fracture-stimulated wells and horizontal multi-lateral well types. The work required the development of comprehensive engineering designs, detailed planning and coordination of field execution activities to safely retire the wells and associated infrastructure while meeting regulatory requirements.
Project Details
Location: New South Wales, Australia
Industry: Coal Seam Gas
Scope: Well Decommissioning, Plug and Abandonment, Field Decommissioning
Role: Well Engineering, Project Management, Tenement Administration
Scope of Work
Development of plug and abandonment engineering designs
Procurement, tender and contractor management
Regulatory interface and tenure administration
Key Challenges

Section milling of steel from mineable coal seams
Remediation of surface casing vent flow
Outcomes
The campaign was completed by JJM personnel over a multi year schedule with zero HSE incidents on time and budget. The decommissioning involved remediation of number with free pipe and several wells with surface casing vent flow. The campaign was delivered with a year on year stair case improvement program to incorporate efficiencies and operational learnings.
